“A gentleman’s thoughts” by mr. kenneh
“A gentleman’s
thoughts” is a blog that I decided to start this year that details my reporting
and thoughts about current events, relative news and trends. The blog will also
detail some of my experiences with friends, co-workers, my travels, relationships
and business endeavors. The trending topics of “A gentleman’s thoughts” will be
but not limited to: finance, fashion, politics, sports, relationships and
advice from the elders.

Please
America just once mind your own damn business. Egypt is the center of the Arab
world. Currently the Arab nation is in the midst of a heated revolution in
which the citizens are demanding the resignation of their current President Hosni Mubarak along with violent protest seeking
political reform and the implementation of a functioning democracy, I hope the
United States of America decides to do what we have refused to do in the past.
Mind our own damn business. It is no longer 1914 and this is not World War I.
The demographics of our political worlds have changed we are not fighting the
Germans. The violent insurgence that we see in Egypt right now may spill over
to other Arab countries. Citizens who have lived in and endured oppression for
years will speak out and act out against governments that fail to meet the
needs of its people. In Sudan last week we saw a country that spoke out for
itself in which 98% of the Southern Sudanese people chose to secede from North
Sudan and declare their own independence. United States please mind your own
damn business and allow the Middle Eastern countries to speak out and act out
for themselves. Arab nations are very capable of fighting for their freedom. When
Americans citizens live in oppression they speak out with vociferous passion.
As America’s unemployment rises, healthcare quarrels between the Democrats and
Republicans increase and we continue to dig our country into an insurmountable
multi trillion dollar deficit let’s only hope America and it’s government will
hear those thundering yells of its own people before those yells become
unstoppable trains of violence as in Egypt.

Ready
or not spring 2011 is here. The retail buyers and fashionistas have completed their
spring fashion selections and the fashions will be hitting retail stores this
month. Now that New York City is my new home I have transitioned from being an
avid sports fan into a fashion loving, style conscious GQ reading, avid sports
fan. As much as I love the knitted scarves, leather gloves, snow boots, Moscow,
Russian hats and the multiple layers of clothing the winter provides I am so
ready for the spring of 2011. A spring filled with polo shirts, chino pants,
double breasted everything and wayfarer shades. Big hits this spring tailored
for the urban gentleman will be iconic baseball jackets, colored chino pants,
suede shoes, retro polos and plaid ties. Check out GQ magazine’s Spring Style
preview.

Surprise,
surprise. Do the names Chuck Noll, Vince Lombardi, Bart Starr, The Steel
Curtain, Terry Bradshaw, Reggie White, Rod Woodson, Brett Favre and Jerome
Bettis ring a bell? Super 45 will
compose of what arguably are the two best franchises in the National Football
League and best run organizations in all of sports. It’s not the 60’s or 70’s
anymore but the Steelers and the Packers have enjoyed continued success and
find themselves back in the Super Bowl for a collective 13th time.
How is it possible that two teams from two of the NFL’s smallest markets
continue to have success at the highest level? The Steelers and Packers teams
have taken on the identity of the citizens in the cities in which they
play. The city’s identity trickles
down from ownership, to the front office then to the coaching staff and players.
When the Steelers essentially gave Santonio Holmes away to the New York Jets
for a 5th round draft pick this past off season I was pissed. I thought,
how could the Steelers let go of a Super Bowl MVP and a talented young player? Holmes
mistake was he had gone against the Steeler way of, you bust your ass on the
field, you take less money to play for the black and gold and most importantly,
you stay out of trouble and represent the Steeler organization in a positive
manner. Of course Big Ben was in trouble in the off season but he’s still a
Steeler for one reason, the rape charges were dropped. Those 2 super bowl rings
didn’t hurt either. But in this day and age of big city franchises, more money,
more money, more money and a lack of humility amongst the NFL’s millionaire players,
I’m glad to watch two teams in the Super Bowl that represent what is America
outside of New York, LA and Miami. Green Bay and Pittsburgh represent working
class people who live for their families, their dreams and of course their
hometown teams.
My
Super Bowl 45 prediction is: Having been nearly 41 years since Vince Lombardi’s
death, the Green Bay Packers will win the Lombardi Trophy which is named after
their most legendary coach. GO PACK GO.
Advice from the elders:
“Don’t focus on
improving yourself for her. Focus on improving yourself for you. Hopefully she
sticks around for the progress.”
