Best of Columbus: RIVET GALLERY...

This week Kingsrowe.com had the opportunity to learn a little more about a local treasure for pop art enthusiasts, the Rivet Gallery. Almost a year ago I stumbled upon Rivet Gallery after parking at a meter to go to the Milk Bar. Those of you who know me know that my inner child pretty much rules my life, so it was a no brainer that I stop into a store filled with cool looking toys. Long story short, after nearly an hour, I forgot to go into Milk Bar. Yesterday, myself and Gerk Griggidy had the opportunity to explore the realm of oblong shaped figures and oil based pictures, strange worlds and even stranger characters without our resident photographer Luckistar who was busy moving. The Rivet Gallery prides itself for being a one-of-a-kind boutique with art and figures that express the likings of owner Laura Kuenzli. Kuenzli opened the gallery nearly two and a half years ago in Columbus’ Short North area and has been moving steadily ever since. The idea behind the gallery derives from the owner’s interest in collectibles, both local and international favorites. The products in Rivet Gallery are classified as pop-surrealism, which includes designer vinyl or urban toys, in other words, collectables for modern art enthusiasts. The best part of this pop art utopia is that they do not hesitate to feature local artists and designers. If your work is up to par, then there is potentially a space available for you. Simple. Some local artists that I thought were pretty cool were Neth Creatures, Sam Fout and Maxe Smith.
