Why Rick Ross is the HOTTEST Rapper RIGHT NOW! by @The_Rell
I've
been saying this for some time now on Twitter and in person, and I'm tired of
trying to explain this in 140 characters or less, cot dammit!!! If you don't
know music… I'm going to give you a chance to stop reading...
Okay,
I see some of you are still here. I'm not saying that you have to agree with
me, I'm saying that people must RESPECT Rick Ross and his movement!

Ross has taken the game by the horns since about
2009; around the time his third solo album Deeper
Than Rap dropped. This was even during the feud with 50 Cent that shoulda/coulda/woulda
ended Ross' career, as most of you would say, but somehow made him stronger.
Coming off of the whole C.O. controversy, he dropped a good album with
relatively no drug talk!!! With hits like "Magnificent", "Bossy
Lady", "All I Need", and "Face", Ross maintained his
swag and kept the focus on the ladies during this rough time. Before the album,
Ross had countless diss tracks and videos toward Fiddy, including "Mafia
Music," which made the album. Also, he had a few words from a former
G-Unit affiliate, Bang Em Smurf, on another track that took a few jabs at 50
Cent. After that album, the controversy, and the beef with 50, his momentum
never stopped.
Next
came The Albert Anastasia EP, which
had two of the HOTTEST street and club songs of Summer 2010;
"B.M.F" and "MC Hammer". Not to mention the radio hit with
Ne-Yo called "Super High"! But that wasn't it for The BAWSE... Ross
was on countless features with stars such as Marques Houston, DJ Khaled, Keri
Hilson, and one of the biggest remixes of the year with Diddy & Waka Flocka
Flame!
He
was constantly on the radio, in the club, or where ever music was played! Then
another beef brewed up rapper, Young Jeezy.
Jeezy seemed secretly upset about Ross's song "BMF" due to the
relationship he had with former drug lord Big Meech! Although a name was not
said, shots were fired in Jeezy's "BMF" freestyle which caused Ross to
single handedly take over the summer, the hip hop scene, and all of the blogs
with a record, which many believe crippled Jeezy to this day, called "The
Summers Mine." After the record, no one should have had doubt about who The
Boss of the rap game was!! Especially considering the only competition Ross had
during the summer of 2010 was Drake.
With the drop of Teflon Don July of 2010, Ross debuted at #2 on the Billboard 200,
selling 176,000 copies in its first week. Many don't believe that's much for a
hip-hop superstar, but during a time where album sales are down and your fan
base is majority street; this is a pretty good number. The album featured other
late summer/fall hits like "Live Fast, Die Young" featuring Kanye
West and "Aston Martin Music" featuring Drake and Chrisette Michele.
Even
after the album’s success, Ross continued with features, or other hits to end
the year. He was on T.I.'s "Pledge Allegiance To The Swag", T-Pain's
"Rap Song" with Yo Gotti, and The Clipse’s street record,
"Cocaine Muzik". Ross hopped on "Devil In A New Dress" by
Kanye West, single handedly turning a good record into a great one. Ross
was also on one of the BIGGEST hits by Kanye, called "Monster", along
with Jay-Z and Nicki Minaj.
Ross rounded off the year with a BOOM through his
Nike commercial, constant radio play, a tour, and a successful album. You would
think he would stop and smell the roses. Nahhhhhh, not Ricky Ross. Instead, he
dropped another mixtape the day before Christmas called Ashes To Ashes.
Now
all you Moolies and Monkeys could have closed your eyes and ears for part of
2009 and all of 2010, but there is no way possible that you ignored Ross in
2011! C'mon now, this man has been everywhere! Including one of the biggest US
tours of the year so far. On tour with
Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne ("I Am Music Tour"), the show had sold out everywhere.
Let’s start with the Ashes To Ashes mixtape. It had artist from Drake to Barry White and
included samples from Aaliyah. If this tape would've dropped a week later, it
would've easily been the best mixtape of 2011! "Black Man’s Dream"
featuring Luda was an instant club hit along with "Made Men"
featuring Drake and "RetroSuperFuture" featuring Wiz Khalifa, which included visuals that had the Internet
going crazy!
Another
club banger "John Doe" had people going nuts in the club and the
whips. Sh*t had me hype every time I heard it play through the subs. The tape
also had two tracks with Wale and one of the freshmen of 2011, Meek Millz. Soon
after the mixtape, he signed both Wale and Meek Millz to make Maybach Music
Group. The group also includes Triple C's, Masspike Miles, Teedra Moses, Pillz,
reggae artist, Magazeen, and up and coming rapper from Ohio, Stalley... a powerhouse!
After
the signing of Wale and Meek, Ross wasted no time at all. Following the
announcement, tracks started to flood the streets and a compilation album was
in the works called Self Made: Maybach
Music Group, Vol. 1. Ross also let the people know that his fifth solo
album, God Forgives, I Don't, would
be hitting the shelves later in 2011. But that wasn't it.
He
was on another DJ Khaled track entitled "Welcome To My Hood" and Ace Hood's "Hustle
Hard Remix" which both got plenty of radio play along with Travis Barker's
"Can The Drummer Get Some". Soon after the individual spotlight, he
started to hit the streets with heat from him and his people at MMG. Songs like
"Perfectionist" with Millz hit radios and DJs all over. Allowing his
new tracks from Self Made ride out, like
"600 Benz," "Tupac Back," and "PacMan," Ross let
his new artists take the lead role.
That
didn't mean Ross was about to release his complete choke hold on rap! He's
featured on Lil Wayne's single for his next album which is a remake of his song
from Teflon Don, "I'm Not A
Star" (now entitled "John"), and has released a single for his
upcoming album, 9 Piece.
In
May of 2011 the Self Made album hit
the stores after about 3 months of the new artist being on the label. Yet they
still manage to make a relatively good album. Although they only did 55,000 out
the gate, it was only 3 months of work and not a single Rick Ross track on
there... I was kind of impressed. Also, while he has all of that
going on, he possibly has the biggest radio single out right now called
"I'm On One" which is played nonstop everywhere you go. I'm talking
ringtones, radios, iPods, and clubs.
Now you can sit there and soak all that in for a
minute. But please think of another artist that has had the kind of impact like
Rick Ross has had these last two years. You can say you don't like him, and
that's cool, but you have to respect him. There's nobody in Hip-Hop/Rap doing
what he's doing right now. Honestly, I don't think anybody is coming close, but
that's another debate. You can ignore the facts, the albums, the MMG movement,
the records, the features, and all of that as much as you want to but the truth
still remains that...... RICK ROSS IS THE HOTTEST RAPPER IN THE GAME!!!!
