Spring 2009 Trend Breakdown

      Ok, we have all heard of "Spring Cleaning"; right? Out with the old in with the NEW?! Ok, good! As we leave the cold behind, it is now time to update your wardrobe from those grueling muffled colors and thick layers to vibrant prints, bold colors and delicate fabrics. As reported by Elle, Spring 2009 has many trends that will keep us looking original: 

1. Bold Colors - If your not living under a rock, you have run into neon. TRUST ME! Pencil jeans, tanks and shoes (just to name a few) are the object of neon's affection. Keep in mind, it's neon so do it with taste. Don't overdo it! Check out this Matthew Williamson dress and the Louis V Graffiti Sneaks.... Tastefully done may I add.

2. Statement Accessories - Don't play cheap when it comes to your accessories! Accessories are the best way to keep your wardrobe tight and fresh. They are thought of as investment pieces that enhance any outfit; especially old articles of clothing. Buy a variety of: necklaces, handbags, shoes, cardigans; small but distinctive pieces so you can miss-match with your old faithfuls.

3. Patterns - Fashion is all about risk taking. Don't be scared to mix up your patterns as you do colors. Remember they're only patterns! Use good judgement; maintaining harmony, balance, and contrast. Take advantage of "flowy" chiffon dresses that offers diverse patterns (i.e. XXI). Stripes, polka-dots, embellishment and plaids are all good examples of stepping out the box and playing with patterns.

4. Past over Future - Fashion is about evolution.  What goes around truly does come back around. Take a visit to the 60s and 80s as fashion inspiration. Don't hesitate to pull out your tie-dye and tattered jeans. Bohemian style is also a big hit this spring. I dare you to create your own style! Match fabrics; long chiffon printed dresses with a denim vest over! Don't forget your gladiator shoes.
