SPORTS WITH FONZ: TEAMS WE LOVE TO HATE
Pittsburgh Penguins: Somehow the Penguins land the two best young
players Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin. With two young stars the
Penguins ran through the Eastern Conference and reached the Stanley
Cup, where they lost to the Detroit Redwings. Two young players
carrying their team got them well derserved praise and love. However,
all the hype around the two also brought about lotsof hate. Other
teams called the Penguins whiners and cheap shot artists and crying
about the very own style of play that they were playing, hypocrites.
Ohio State Buckeyes (football): Us Buckeyes cant't get a break with
the critics. They love to see us run through the Big Ten, Win the Big
Ten title over our rivials Michigan and get to a bowl game. However,
when we get accepted to the BCS National Championship we hear all the
talk about how our scheduling is so bad, because we play such teams as
Youngstown State and Kent State back in 2007 - 08 season. And coming
into the next season we're overrated. We'll never be good enough for
the critics.
Los Angles Lakers: So much love for the Lakers because of their 5
Championships in the 80's. Having some of the greatest players of all
time on the team, Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor, Jerry West, Magic
Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and James Worthy, and Pat Riley as their
coach, Laker fans had the total package with these people being the
face of the franchise. They draft Kobe Bryant from high school and the
start of new generations of Lakers emerged. But just as they loved
their winning Lakers, they hated them as well. Pat Riley and his slick
back hair, Kareem and his skyhook, Kurt Rambis and his crazy dives
across the court, and the coining of that dreaded term “Three-Peat”.
Not to mention Kobe Bryant's allegedly selfish on-court play, his
soap-opera like feuds with Shaquille O’Neal. Seems like the simple
things get you hated the most.
The Patriots: There is no arguement that they're one of the best
football teams in the past years. Superbowls, Conference
Championships, along with the best QB (Tom Brady) in the NFL. But,
with the whole spygate incident, the Patriots were labeled as cheaters,
and made everyone question why the really were so good. They also had
one of the most dirtiest players in the game (Rodney Harrison) which
didn't help at all.
Dallas Cowboys: Year after year we hear how they're going make the
playoffs, and possibly slip they way into the Superbowl. And they
never do; can't even win a playoff game. So a Superbowl right now
seems very far-fetched. A owner who will go all out for his team,
spending millions on a stadium which they can't even win in. Players
like Terrell Ownes who always was in the news and a QB (Tony Romo) who
has all the best numbers in the world but can't seem to win a big
game. Then they're given the label "Americas Team" and it seems like
all of America hates them.
