Legendary Alexander McQueen Commits Suicide
One of the most influential and talented fashion designer's Alexander McQueen has taken his life today, February 11, 2010. Known for his unconventional and dramatic designs (which can be seen on Lady Gaga and Rihanna) British designer Alexander McQueen has been a leading name in the fashion industry, winning the Fashion Designer of the Year award on numerous occasions. Though it is not clear why McQueen decided to take his life, many speculate that McQueen was grieving over the death of his mother who passed February 2 (McQueen's mother's funeral was scheduled for today). Others have attributed his death to the added pressure to complete lines for next week's Autumn/Fall London Fashion Week and this week's McQ show in New York Fashion Week.
McQueen's company released an official statement:
“On behalf of Lee McQueen’s family, Alexander McQueen today announces the tragic news that Lee McQueen, the founder and designer of the Alexander McQueen brand, has been found dead at his home.
“At this stage it is inappropriate to comment on this tragic news beyond saying that we are devastated and are sharing a sense of shock and grief with Lee’s family.”
